Overview

Better Island ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the Better Island iOS application.

The short version: We do not collect, store, or share any personal data. Everything stays on your device.

Data We Do Not Collect

Better Island does not collect or transmit any of the following:

• Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
• Location data
• Voice recordings or transcriptions
• Camera or photo data
• Usage analytics or crash reports
• Device identifiers
• Financial or payment information

Permissions We Request

📍 Location

Used only to display local weather in the Weather feature. Location data is sent directly to the open-meteo.com weather API and is never stored or shared by us.

🎤 Microphone

Used in the Dictaphone and Translator features to record your voice. Audio is processed entirely on your device using Apple's built-in frameworks. No audio is sent to our servers.

🗣 Speech Recognition

Used to transcribe voice recordings and for the Translator feature. Speech recognition is handled by Apple's on-device Speech framework. We do not have access to any recognized text.

📷 Camera

Used only when you open the QR Scanner feature to scan QR codes and barcodes. Camera access is never used for any other purpose.

Third-Party Services

Better Island connects to the following external services to provide features:

• open-meteo.com — Weather data (receives approximate location)
• exchangerate-api.com — Currency exchange rates (no personal data sent)
• CoinGecko API — Cryptocurrency prices (no personal data sent)
• Yahoo Finance API — Stock prices (no personal data sent)
• ipapi.co — IP address lookup when you use the My IP feature (your IP is sent to retrieve location info)
• Cloudflare Speed Test — Internet speed testing when you use SpeedCheck (no personal data sent)

None of these services receive any personally identifiable information beyond what is technically necessary for the feature to function.

Data Storage

All app data (settings, recordings, reminders, scripts) is stored locally on your device using iOS standard storage (UserDefaults and Documents directory). This data is included in your regular iCloud backups if you have iCloud backup enabled.

We have no access to any data stored on your device.

Purchases & Subscriptions

Better Island Pro subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store any payment information. All billing is managed by Apple according to their privacy policy.

Children's Privacy

Better Island does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. The app does not target children and contains no features designed for children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
